DESCRIPTION
This small-scale platform was developed in response to the growing need for intelligent, efficient, and context-aware irrigation solutions capable of addressing increasing water scarcity. By leveraging emerging technologies such as the IoT, AI, and low-power sensing and actuation devices, the platform enables smart irrigation strategies that optimize water use. To support decentralized water governance in smallholder agriculture, a dual-mode IoT-blockchain platform prototype has been deployed. The platform combines real-time sensing, intelligent decision-making, and secure distributed ledger technologies to ensure transparent, traceable, and trustworthy water management.
SCENARIOS
This platform provides a small-scale Living Lab environment for investigating AI-driven irrigation control and decentralized water management and sharing. Its architecture supports two complementary operational modes:
Community Water Hub (CWH): designed for the coordinated management of shared water infrastructure, enabling collaborative monitoring, allocation, and scheduling of water resources.
