MGFarm - RIMSAR

RIMSAR farm is situated in the El Kelâa des Sraghna province, Marrakech-Safi Region (8 km from El Kelaa des Sraghna, 50 km from Benguerir). The region is characterized by a hot semi-arid climate with warm and dry summers. The ambient temperature of El Kelaa Des Sraghna ranges from 11.8 °C (corresponding to January) to 29.3 °C (which corresponds to August). It is also noticeable that the monthly precipitation of El Kelaa Des Sraghna varies from 3 mm (which corresponds to June) to 49 mm (corresponding to November). Furthermore, the annual average ambient temperature and rainfall in El Kelaa Des Sraghna are respectively 20.42 °C and 23.92 mm.

The region is known by its great agricultural reputation, especially for the cultivation of olive trees. It occupies the first class of olive production at national level. In particular, in the arboriculture sector, olive trees remain the predominant trees in the region, which extend over more than 43,000 hectares, or almost 91% of the total area reserved for fruit farming with an average production of over 100 000 tons in a normal year, or 24 quintals per ha.

RIMSAR is characterized by many similar features making it an ideal field operational test site for many aspects, such as energy, water, and IT solutions related to precision agriculture.

MGFarm - BLFARM

BLFARM is a private and irrigated farm with an area of 5 hectares. It is located in Saniat Berguig in Sidi Bennour Province of the Casablanca-Settat region (32.714163, -8.6110714). It is distanced by 25.6 km from Sidi Bennour and 75.5 km from El Jadida. The region is characterized by a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with strong N and NE winds. The ambient temperature of Saniat Berguig spans across values from 13.3°C (corresponding to January) to 25°C (which corresponds to August). Furthermore, the monthly precipitation of Saniat Berguig ranges from 1 mm (which corresponds to July) to 117 mm (corresponding to November). The farms in this region follow an extensive cultivation (sugar beet, wheat, market garden produce) and cattle breeding of varieties imported from Europe mainly for milk and meat production.

BLFARM represents traditional and family-driven farms; it is irrigated using a pumping system, which operates on power supplied from the national electric grid. The pumping system draws water from the well (about 50 m depth). The groundwater is directly pumped and redirected to a sprinkler irrigation system while no storage tank is used. 

All the above-mentioned features and characteristics make BLFARM an ideal field operational test site in the region.
